The Pioneer sx-1280 is legendary. Made by Pioneer from 1975 to 1979 the pioneer SX-1280 receiver is considered the baby brother of the infamous pioneer sx-1980. The amplifier is conservatively rated 185 WPC into 8 ohms, this receiver amplifier is considered by many audiophiles to be one of the finest sounding Pioneer tuners ever built. This receiver in my view is great. I run it with Cerwin Vega VS-150 Speakers. The sound is Clean at any volume. Even to this day it is excellent. If you can obtain one do. As for me I will be keeping mine.

I saved mine from the top of a dumpster where it was perched by the previous owner; that was before I knew anything about it. Input selectors were scratchy, but some contact cleaner took care of that.
I have been running my pro-sound speakers (E/Vs, EAWs, and even some hi-end Peaveys) just to have some good music in my prosound-tech room for the interim. I can already tell that the 4-way tone control/2-frequency filters gives more than enough adjustment to sizzle cymbals and shake the floor – all that through harsh PA speakers.
The only thin that keeps me from running my vintage Infinity Q3s is that tomorrow I will pick up a pair of age-matched Infinity Qb 10″-3way speakers so that I can get something audio-worthy of such a historic receiver, might be more power than the Qbs need, but I can’t wait just the same!
I knocked a star off of the features because of the old-school limitations for contemporary inputs. But the Cool Factor deserves highest marks.
And I thought my old Onkyo TX4500 was cool? (Now where’d my old Marantz 2230 buddies run off to?)
pioneer sx-1250 receiver. rattle the whole neiborhood…… i have 6 bose 901 spkrs hooked up at home . and use 4 sansui 9700 spkrs when going to use at the cabin in ohio. so loud the indiana police contacted ohio police over {{ohio band playing to loud disterbing the peace in indina }}} as a working teen. in steed of buying the nicest car i could i got the nicest sterio i could . still useing it to fred.
